Quick answer: the Honda City 2021 to 2024 (1.2 and 1.5) takes 0W-20, with 5W-30 fully synthetic accepted, about 3.4 to 3.7 litres with a filter. The City 2009 to 2020 (1.3 and 1.5 i-VTEC) takes 5W-30 or 10W-30, about 3.7 litres. Change every 5,000 km in city driving. The CVT version needs Honda HCF-2 fluid every 40,000 km, and nothing else.

- Best value 5W-30: GP 5W-30 fully synthetic 3L, Rs 5,850, plus a small top-up. API SP.
- For the 2021-plus: Castrol Magnatec 5W-30 3L, Rs 6,499, or Mobil Super All-In-One 0W-20 3.5L, Rs 8,930.
Filter: Honda oil filters from Rs 220 to Rs 1,499 on our filter shelf. Air filter every 10,000 km.
The one mistake we fix most on a City: 20W-50 from a roadside workshop. The L-series engine is built for thin oil; thick oil makes it rattle on cold start and drink fuel.
