Quick answer: the Pakistani Suzuki Alto 660 (2019 onwards, R06A engine) takes 2.4 litres of 0W-20 fully synthetic, API SN or SP, with a filter change. 5W-30 fully synthetic is acceptable on a car past 60,000 km. Never 10W-40 or 20W-50. Change every 5,000 km in Lahore. A 3L pack does one change with 600 ml left for top-ups.
Why this engine is fussy
The 660cc R06A has a tiny sump, variable valve timing on the intake cam, and on the AGS version an automated clutch that shares nothing with the engine oil but hates the vibration a thick oil causes at idle. Thick oil starves the VVT on a cold morning, throws a rough idle, and eventually a check-engine light. We see it every week on Altos serviced elsewhere.
What we’d put in it
- Genuine: Suzuki Genuine 0W-20 API SP, 3.1L, Rs 6,799. The factory fill.
- Same spec, less money: GP 0W-20 fully synthetic 3L, Rs 6,399. API SP, the one most of our Alto customers switch to.
- Past 60,000 km: Suzuki 5W-30 API SN 3L, Rs 6,099, or GP 5W-30 3L, Rs 5,850.
Filter: the Suzuki filter for Alto, Cultus and Wagon R is on our filter shelf. New one every change; the sump is too small to carry a loaded filter.
AGS owners: the gearbox fluid is Suzuki CVTF Green 2 only. Not ATF, not a universal.
Coolant: Guard green 4L, Rs 2,499, every 2 years.
