Quick answer: the Suzuki Mehran (F8B 800cc, every year from 1989 to 2019) takes about 3 litres of 20W-50 mineral or semi-synthetic oil with a filter change. It does not want a thin synthetic; its clearances were designed for thick oil and a 5W-30 will leak past the seals and burn. Change every 3,000 km in the city. A 3L pack costs Rs 3,149 to Rs 4,649 and does one change.
Why the cheap oil is the right oil here
The F8B is a 1980s carburettor engine with wide bearing clearances and no variable valve timing. A 20W-50 holds a film in those clearances at 45°C where a thin oil drains away. The one upgrade worth making is a synthetic blend 20W-50 (ZIC X5, Kixx G) on a Mehran past 150,000 km that has started to use oil; it slows the consumption without changing the grade.

- Best value: GP 20W-50 multigrade 3L, Rs 3,149. The lowest-priced sealed 3L on our shelf and exactly what this engine wants.
- Classic choices: Caltex Havoline 20W-50 4L, Rs 4,299, or PSO Carient Plus 20W-50, Rs 4,499. Both are the oils Lahore’s Mehran mechanics grew up on.
- For a high-mileage Mehran: Petromin Super Ultra 7 20W-50 3L, Rs 4,649, or SK ZIC X1 20W-50 4L, Rs 5,499.
Filter: the Suzuki oil filter on our filter shelf from Rs 199, and the Mehran fuel filter at Rs 90, which is the cheapest fix for a Mehran that hesitates at 3,000 rpm.
Don’t: let anyone sell you a Rs 8,000 fully synthetic 5W-30 for a Mehran. It is not better for this engine; it is wrong for it.
