What can I check without opening it?
- Look for damage, evidence of tampering or a broken closure.
- Check product name, viscosity, pack size and trace or batch information.
- Compare the packaging with the brand’s information for the same product and market.
- Contact the seller or brand if any detail is inconsistent.
Packaging can vary by product, market and production batch. Do not assume every genuine bottle has an identical foil seal or printing method. An intact-looking seal is useful to check, but is not conclusive proof of the oil inside.
How should I use a verification code?
Begin with the brand’s official website rather than trusting an unfamiliar destination printed on a sticker. Shell Pakistan publishes its own anti-counterfeit checking guidance. Follow the current instructions for the relevant Shell product; do not assume the same process applies to ZIC, Caltex or another brand.
If a code fails, is unclear or produces an unexpected response, contact the brand through its official support channel. A failed scan can require investigation; it is not a complete diagnosis by itself.
Does cheap oil mean fake oil?
Price is a reason to ask questions, not proof. Compare identical products and pack sizes, then check seller details and sourcing. Discounts, different pack sizes or a different product series can change the price. This guide does not set an arbitrary percentage below which every bottle is counterfeit.
Can I tell from colour or smell?
Do not rely on appearance or smell to authenticate a lubricant. Keep the product unopened while resolving doubts with the seller or brand. A social video comparing two liquids cannot establish the formulation of the bottle you received.
What if I already received a suspicious item?
